Thanks to this course graduates will master:

  • the basic techniques and concepts of hydrology, geochemistry of water and soils, pedology, remote sensing, contaminant transfer (inorganic and organic) which allow them to understand the overall functioning of the surface of Earth and the impact of human activities;
  • the qualitative and quantitative assessment, characterisation and modelling of surface and ground water resources;
  • the techniques of data processing and application linked to the environment;
  • the development of tools and field actions in order to preserve natural resources.

For all candidates, admissions are based on application files, after a validation of the acquired skills by an admissions board in early July. Foreign students have to be proficient in French to follow the course.

Admissions based on diplomas

  • Master 1 in Water, Soil, Environment of Université Paul Sabatier (UPS).
  • Master 1 in Mechanics-Energy of Université Paul Sabatier (UPS) for the students who followed the major "Mechanics and environment"
  • An equivalent to the engineering courses in ENSEEIHT, ENSIACET and ENSAT.

ADMISSIONs based on application files

  • Masters in Chemistry, Physics, Mechanics, ...
  • Engineering degrees with courses related to the fields above-mentioned.
  •  Foreign degrees equivalent to a master or an engineering degree.

The theoretical and experimental courses taught in this Master are equivalent to 60 ECTS.

  • The first semester includes common courses (18 ECTS) and courses specific to hydrology or hydrochemistry (12 ECTS).
  • The second semester (30 ECTS) is an internship in a laboratory. It starts in February and lasts at least 4 months. The Research Master H2SE offers numerous opportunities in internationally recognised laboratories and research teams.

The aim of the course is to give the skills for research work - through research - in order to complete a doctoral thesis. Therefore the fields concerned are above all  the academic field and research organisations such as the CNRS, the CEA, the BRGM, the IRD, …

There are potential careers as:

  • researcher,
  • research faculty member,
  • observatories' physicist,
  • research engineer,
  • design engineer.
