Objectives

The Master 2 degree in Process and Bioprocess Engineering is a co-certified degree offered by Université Paul Sabatier and Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse. 

The speciality Processes for chemistry, environment and energy (PCE2) offers students competences allowing them to design, dimension and optimize the behavior of conventional unit operations in chemical engineering and innovative transformation pathways of matter and energy, (reject limitation, energetic throughput improvement, bioprocesses, miniaturization, …).

This speciality proposes two modules. The module Ingénierie des Procédés Physico-Chimiques has a profesional focus. The module Génie des Procédés Avancés is more oriented toward the Research carriers and then prepares to a PhD thesis.

Only the module Génie des Procédés Avancés is open to the Toulouse INP-ENSIACET students. This module allows to obtain knowledge and skills specific to careers in Process and Bioprocess Engineering.

Admissions

Required curriculum

This Master's degree is intended for engineers or holders of a Master of Science or students:

  • who validated a first year of a Master's degree or an equivalent,
  • and who already have some basic knowledge in process engineering (thermodynamics, kinetics, computer science, transport phenomena, unit operations),
  • in their last year of the engineering cycle of Toulouse INP-ENSIACET.

Registration

  • For the Toulouse INP-ENSIACET FISE and FISA students, the registration to the master PCE2 is possible only if all the UE of 1A and 2A have been validated. It is organized by INP at the same time as the 3A registration at the end of September.

Content

For the students of the N cycle (except engineering students)

For the students of the N cycle (except Toulouse INP-ENSIACET students), there are theoretical courses (400h) during the first semester, taught by researchers and research faculty members of different establishments of Toulouse (UPS, INPT, INSA), and there is an internship of  5 to 6 months in laboratory or in industry during the second semester.

The 1st semester is divided into 7 compulsory academic units (UE) and three UE either in the module Ingénierie des Procédés Physico-Chimiques, or in the module Génie des Procédés Avancés.

These three UE are completed by practical work (electrochemistry, separation, bio) for the module Ingénierie des Procédés Physico-Chimiques and by a PRIT pour the module Génie des Procédés Avancés.

When the "Projet Recherche et Innovation Technologique" (PRIT, Research project and technological innovation) is done on the same subject as the practical internship in a research laboratory, it constitutes a micro-thesis. This micro-thesis formalizes work of studies and research of a complete year and deals with all the steps of a research work (scientific and technological monitoring, positioning of an innovative and original project in an international scientific context, organization and management of a research project, optimization of scientific results, assessment of potential industrial applications...). 

For Toulouse INP-ENSIACET students

For the Toulouse INP-ENSIACET students, the marks of the compulsory UE (transfers, reactors, design of precesses, modeling, ... and English) are calculated from the marks obtained by the student in his previous curriculum. The student must follow the three UE of the module Génie des Procédés Avancés (3x20 h). They must do three theoretical evaluations, choose a 3A project of Toulouse INP-ENSIACET oriented Research (to be validated by the master responsible) and perform the PRIT during the two first months of the 3A internship. The PRIT is a bibliographic analysis on the internship topic.

The practical internship is a typical end-of-studies internship whose terms are given by Toulouse INP-ENSIACET. It can take place in a company or in a laboratory, in production, R&D... It must include a proven scientific content.

After the Master's degree

Further studies

Students of this master's degree can develop a professional project in the field of academic or private research. The students who continue with a doctoral thesis can have job prospects after their thesis either in a public research organisation - higher education, CNRS, INRA) or in the R&D department (Research and development) in large industrial groups.

The doctoral thesis should not be considered as further studies but as a first professional experience (autonomy, project management...) that leads to more expertise, new skills and an international profile (uncommon resume, contacts, relations,...).

Via equivalents, this diploma can be prepared during the last year of the engineering course of ENSIACET.
