Energy Efficiency and Logistic in Industrial Systems (ELENSYS) 5th year specialization curriculumThe first "green" and "renewable" energy is the one we do not consume !

ELENSYS

In a complex socio-economic context, the energy transition in industry cannot be achieved without improving the energy performance of the plants.
Moreover, the rationalization of their energy consumption is a determining factor for the competitiveness and the sustainability of the companies.

The objective of this specialization curriculum is to provide to engineers the methodological background necessary for the design and the management of industries of the future, in a context of sustainable development. By integrating the energy aspects more specifically into the design and operation phases of these systems, it makes them more sober, more efficient and more flexible by means of both technical and managerial actions. For this purpose, this course covers both the diagnosis and energy optimization methods, essential for a site improvement process, for the energy management and for the energy supply chain in which alternative renewable energies are included. Openness on innovative methodologies resulting from research is also proposed, in particular concerning the operability of eco-efficient integrated systems.

Prerequisites

  • Strong scientific foundations of the engineer
  • Interest in the energy producting sector

Skills

  • Design and manage eco-efficient production systems.
  • Improve the energy performance and productivity of existing systems.
  • Know how to carry out an audit to establish the energy diagnosis of a system.
  • Identify and quantify the SIU (Significant Energetic Uses) of an industrial site and determine the relevant energy KPI (Key Performance Indicators).
  • Analyze the various possible levers of action to improve the energy performance of extended enterprises.
  • Understand the energy supply chain (production, distribution, storage, conversion) and take into account the possible synergies between industrial sites and its environment (district heat power networks, industrial eco-parks, etc.).
  • Know how to implement an energy management system and the ISO50001 standard.
  • Implement and pilot an industrial development project (define and allocate human, technical and financial resources) and quantify the return on investment.
  • Working in a team and network.

Prospects

  • All sectors related to production and energy (companies or local authorities)
  • Industries for the processing of materials and the manufacture of goods (refining, chemicals, plastics, food processing, pharmaceuticals, metallurgy, polymer, machinery and equipment manufacturing, automotive…)
  • Production and distribution of electricity, gas and water
  • Engineering firms, business service
  • SMEs in the energy sector
