Environmental Engineering specialization

This specialisation aims to train engineers skilled in fields such as hydraulic, physical chemistry and chemical engineering to design hydraulic networks, water treatment facilities or environmentally friendly processes.

During thise interdisciplinary specialisation, students are introduced to the socio-economic challenges of activities (rural, urban and industrial areas) as well as to. Tools for geographic analysis, hydrology and sedimentary transport – all essential to draw territorial development schemes like impact studies or river rehabilitation.

Prerequisites

Scientific and technical curriculum in the fields of:

  • chemistry
  • chemical and process engineering
  • hydraulics and fluid mechanics

The program begins with a leveling/harmonization course unit tailored to the candidate's school of origin.

Skills

  • Develop and optimize processes to decontaminate and to restore the environment (water, soils, air) damaged by human activities
  • Manage territorial development projects in the fields of the hydrology of natural and urban environments, the waste and pollutions, the restoration of industrial sites
  • Choose and/or arbitrate the technical choices in equipment, arrangement, methods while having in mind the environmental regulations and the economic and social contexts
  • Know how to analyze and manage the sanitary and environmental risks
  • Work in interdisciplinary teams and networks

Courses

Waste storage, treatment and recovery — Circular economy — Detoxification of polluted soils — Environmental and territorial management — Risk management — Drinking and wastewater treatment — Hydraulics and management of hydrosystems — Modeling

Link with the professional world and industry

Beyond the internship, during the training period, students interact with the professional world through:

  • Field visits, around which lectures and tutorials are organized;
  • Conferences: either introductory talks by professionals dealing with environmental management, or talks on specific themes (quality, risk management);
  • Group projects responding to requests from companies, local authorities, and institutions, requiring students to maintain continuous contact with these stakeholders throughout the semester.

External contributors: Research organizations (INRAE, CNRS), Institutions (Water Agency, ONF, ADEME, etc.), Companies (VEOLIA), Engineering consultancies (SEBA, SIEE, SOI, etc.), local authority representatives, etc.

Activity sectors

  • Water, air and soil treatment
  • Agriculture/environment of priority areas
  • Risks/prevention linked to pollutants of the environment
  • Industrial and urban waste
  • Environment quality management
  • Engineering, technical studies
  • Sanitation, refuse collection and waste management
  • Natural resources management
  • Drinking water industries
  • Agriculture and landscape design support
  • Impact/restoration of hydro-systems
